Workshops

SIS workshops are founded in the belief that not everything therapeutic happens in a counseling room. Often the social, educational and physical components of our workshops offer just the right help one needs!

Educational Workshops:

Financial Planning, VA Home Loan Benefits, Resume Building, Salary Negotiations, Wellness Education, and more….

As each vet is personally recognized at the club, you also will feel acknowledged as individuals for your contributions. This workshop is an enormous success and a veteran favorite. If you want to learn to golf or improve your game, as well as increase your support system, this workshop may be for you. Yonex has provided Strength in Golf demo clubs, so having your own clubs is not necessary for this workshop. If you are interested in participating in Strength in Golf, call (949) 505-5015 ext 1.

Veteran Social Workshop:  Philosophy Focus

This social workshop for veterans are held on Saturday evenings at the Mission Viejo Country Club.  The workshop is sponsored by Tony Guilder, SIS’ Golf Workshop Pro!  This philosophy focused workshop has no topics off limits.  For more information, contact Jill at 949.505.5015 ext 1 for more information and/or to register.

Snowboarding and Stand Up Paddle-Boarding

In 2014, SIS added a Snowboarding Recreational Workshop and a Stand Up Paddle-boarding Recreational Workshop for the family of our veterans.  For more information, call 949.505.5015 ext 1.

The low cost Snowboarding workshops provide a 2 hour lesson, rentals and lift tickets. This workshop is led by veterans for veterans. Our vet to vet workshops allow veterans to support and socialize with one another.  We are very proud of our clients who become volunteers in this workshop. We also are very proud of our vets who take the courage to learn something new.

The FREE Stand Up Paddle-boarding Recreational Workshop SIS hosts is for the veteran and his/her family.  This fun recreational activity provides the socialization, relaxation, and physical challenges that the whole family can enjoy.  Our first SUP workshop is in Dana Point Harbor on April 12, 2014 and fosters the kind of health our veterans and their families need. Vision Statement

Our vision is for every service man, service woman, veteran and their family members to have the mental health services, resources and support that they earned, deserve and need. these services will be delivered in a timely manner in an environment based on respect, collaboration and kindness that serves the whole person, the whole family and the whole community.

Available Programs

SIS serves all military and family members, including active, non-active, reserve, guard, or veteran, from any branch of the military to address their challenges in a timely, competent, and supportive manner. All ages are welcome, and while no family will be turned away, most are low-income. As described in our mission statement, SIS structures its programs on three pillars:

Counseling

Building on the experience of its founders in offering low fee and pro bono mental health services to veterans and their families, SIS allows our military, our vets and their families to receive low-cost (and free if necessary) individual, couple, family, or group therapy and counseling each week. Mentorship

There are many reasons why our clients choose to enter our mentorship program. Our mentorship program can help you manage conflict and stress, as well as ease the transition of deployment or reintegration into civilian life. Our mentors are veterans and spouses of veterans who can act like a friend and guide. Read on »
